The Christmas tree is a decorated tree, typically an evergreen conifer such as spruce, pine, or fir, associated with the celebration of Christmas. The tradition of using evergreen trees to celebrate winter festivals dates back to ancient times, and the modern tradition of decorating a Christmas tree can be traced back to 16th century Germany.

The use of Christmas trees spread throughout Europe and eventually to the United States, where it became popular during the 19th century. Today, the Christmas tree is a ubiquitous symbol of the holiday season, and many families make decorating the tree together a cherished holiday tradition.

In addition to being a centerpiece of holiday decorations, the Christmas tree has also been the subject of numerous cultural references, including in literature, music, and film. From the classic story "The Fir-Tree" by Hans Christian Andersen to the iconic holiday song "O Tannenbaum" to the beloved holiday film "A Charlie Brown Christmas," the Christmas tree has become an enduring symbol of the joy and warmth of the holiday season.
