This work is from a Chinese girl with a large, lovely belly. Dressed in black sports underwear and shorts, with her limbs and waist exposed, Xu is huddled in the corner of one of the exhibition halls at the Central Academy of Fine Arts Museum. She buried herself between the folds of a fabric sofa. There were five clumps of fabric cushions, flesh-pink, like piles of clouds, and like her belly.
"Touch my tummy".
This is the theme of Xu Ruoxuan's exhibition. She is 22 years old and about to graduate from the Central Academy of Fine Arts with a degree in home product design. She is 1.65 metres tall and weighs 180 kilograms.
It seems that all women are not supposed to weigh more than 100kg or they will be disqualified, out of control and undisciplined.
Through this work, I seriously thought about the relationship between obesity and beauty, and the social environment of obese people. To be honest, this is really one of the things that I really wanted to talk about within the piece.
