Wordless book : Hong Kong Basic Law
The Hong Kong Basic Law is a constitutional document that defines the political and legal system of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) of the People's Republic of China. It was adopted on April 4, 1990, and came into effect on July 1, 1997, when Hong Kong was returned to China from British rule.
The Basic Law provides for the "one country, two systems" principle, which allows Hong Kong to maintain a high degree of autonomy and retain its capitalist economic system, legal system, and way of life for fifty years until 2047. It guarantees the protection of human rights and freedoms, such as freedom of speech, the press, assembly, and demonstration, as well as the rule of law.
However, there have been concerns about the erosion of these rights and freedoms in recent years, particularly after the introduction of the National Security Law in 2020. Some people in Hong Kong have expressed disappointment and frustration with the political environment, as you mentioned, and have called for greater autonomy and democracy.
In the book, I laser cut off all the content of the Hong Kong Basic Law, This is a political work of art. It is not intended to change anyone's mind, but to express disappointment with the development of the political environment in Hong Kong. It satirizes the original capitalist system and way of life mentioned in the Basic Law. During this period It has remained unchanged for fifty years. Twenty-six years have passed, but the Chinese government has made Hong Kong's political environment so Chinese that the Basic Law is no longer necessary.
